Ultima Forever to terminate this month

EA has said that iOS MMO title Ultima Forever will be permanently shut down on August 29th.

This was a very difficult decision for us to make,” a statement read. We’ve seen the game through ups and downs, and hope that you’ve enjoyed playing it every bit as much as we had making it! Through it all, it’s been players like you who’ve made it all worthwhile.”

From now until the game’s closure players will be rewarded with boosted Virtue and Reputation rewards, equipment will be disabled and gold key drop rates upped. The sale of premium currency has also been stopped.

The move comes after the closure of the game’s developer Mythic back in May.

Ultima Forever launched just a year ago, although the roots of the series reach back all the way to 1981’s Ultima I: The First Age of Darkenss. Its most notable entries are probably 1999’s Ultima IX: Ascension and 1997’s Ultima Online.
