Psyonix has announced a partnership with Tencent Holdings Limited to bring Rocket League to China.
Psyonix is the developers of Rocket League, the phenomenally successful ‘cars playing football’ game that’s captured the imagination of competitive organisations around the world, and Tencent is the Chinese holdings company that owns, among its other games properties, Riot Games and Supercell.
There will be some changes for the Chinese edition of the game, with many of these being announced during development. Firstly however, the Chinese Rocket League will be free-to-play with items available for purchase. This move isn’t a very substantial change, as the game was released for free initially and found success off the back of many people paying the free game handed out to all subscribers to Sony’s PS+ program on the Playstation.
The game currently has a community of 30m players and has been adding to the game with various paid and free downloadable content since the game’s launch in July 2015.
