Paris Saint-Germain unveils professional Rocket League team

Ligue 1 table-topper Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed its entry into the professional Rocket League esports scene.

PSG’s three-person squad consists of Dan ‘Bluey’ Bluett, Thibault ‘Chausette45’ Grzesiak, and Victor ‘Ferra’ Francal, who readers may recognise as the former members of European esports outfit Frontline.

The trio had previously qualified for the fourth season of the Rocket League Championship Series, where they will now compete for PSG. Currently they sit in second place (behind Method) and remain undefeated.

PSG announced its entry into esports last October when it signed a partnership with WEBEDIA group, which owns French organisation Milleniun and organises tournaments in the region.

“Paris Saint-Germain’s entry into the world of eSport is an historic event for the club,” PSG’s director of merchandising and brand diversification Fabien Allègre said at the time. “We are venturing into this sector with a great deal of ambition and are eager to insert our Rouge & Bleu teams into the history of these new disciplines. We consider Webedia to be the best partner for making this historic launch a success.”

Later that same month League of Legends star Bora ‘YellOwStaR’ Kim announced his retirement from professional League of Legends in order to become PSG’s esports manager.

“I’m now 24, and to be completely honest with you, I am feeling more and more exhausted after hours of playing,” he said at the time. “Everything has become more difficult to do for the last few months even though my inner motivation is still as strong as on the first day.”
