Plus limit doubled from $100,000 to $200,000 as one-year commitment made minimum

Unity raises Plus revenue cap and makes splash screen optional

Unity has made changes to the new Plus tier for its eponymous engine, after developers raised concerns over the platform’s move to a subscription model.

The Plus product bridges the gap between the free Personal edition – which has a funding limit of $100,000 – and Unity Pro, and is priced at $35 per month.

Pro, meanwhile, is $125 per month, offering no revenue cap and other additional services.

Plus originally provided devs with a $100,000 revenue cap, which Unity says it will now raise to $200,000 as a result of the feedback regarding the new subscription model.

In addition, the Unity splash screen, which was previously mandatory for tiers below Pro, will now be optional for Plus users.

The screen itself has been altered to simply read ‘Made with Unity’, removing a mention of ‘Personal Edition’, and devs will be able to edit it further with their own logo. The screen will stay obligatory in Personal edition.

Unity’s Clive Downie added that in line with the changes, Unity Plus users will have to sign up for at least a year’s subscription – paid either in bulk or monthly – while only Pro will be applicable for ‘Pay to Own’.

Pay to Own allows those who subscribe for more than 24 consecutive months to stop paying and maintain access to the tool, minus Pro-tier services. They will also only receive the next three patches for the software.

All of Unity’s tiers will continue to include support for iOS and Android, replacing the previous add-ons required for multi-platform compatibility.
