Updated: Ubisoft has since reached out to MCV concerning Watch Dogs 2’s boxed sales performance in the UK thus far.
Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs 2 has failed to capture the top spot in its first week of release.
The publisher had previously admitted that pre-orders for the title had fallen short of expectations. How its week one unit performance fares is not yet known, but it was not enough to dislodge Activision’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare from No.1 in the GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40.
EA pair FIFA 17 and Battlefield 1 fall one place to third and fourth respectively, boasting a one per cent gain and five per cent drop in sales respectively.
There are big gains for WWE 2K17 and Forza Horizon 3 thanks to retailer promotions, although a 52 per cent sales dip sees Dishonored 2 drop three places to No.7.
The only other new release of the week also comes from Ubisoft, with Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection claiming 10th place.
(UPDATE:Eurogamer estimates that Watch Dogs 2 sold around 80k units in its first week. That’s well, well down on the 380k the first Watch Dogs sold in its first week, and carrying on the trend seen with the likes of Infinite Warfare and Dishonored 2.)

UPDATE 2: Ubisoft has reached out to MCV with the following statement concerning Watch Dogs 2’s performance at UK physical retail during its first week on shelves.
We’re incredibly happy with critics’ and players’ very positive reception of Watch Dogs 2, which should bolster support for the long-term success of the game. It is true that first-day and first-week sales for a number of big games, including Watch Dogs 2 and titles from our competitors, are comparatively lower than previous versions in previous years.
"However, we expect both week-two and week-three sales to be above traditional sales patterns. There is a trend toward games, especially high-quality games, having stronger and longer ‘tails’ as favorable reviews and word of mouth spread. Watch Dogs 2 is already considered a tremendous addition to the open-world action adventure series and we’re confident that millions of players are going to love it.”
