UPDATED: EA announces new prices for India; FIFA 14 now Rs 2,499 on PC, Rs 3,499 on PS3

Update: Flipkart has now updated the prices for all three games for Xbox 360 – Rs 3,499, same as PS3.

Original story: EA has finally revealed its revised prices for PC and console games in India, and for consumers, it isn’t good news.

As per the newly updated prices on Flipkart, FIFA 14 will be priced Rs 2,499 on PC and Rs 3,499 on PS3. No price has been mentioned for the Xbox 360 version, which is distributed by Redington. PC and PS3 prices were revealed to retailers by Milestone Interactive.

The price hike for Battlefield 4 and Need for Speed: Rivals on PC is even more steep. They will retail for an unprecedented Rs 3,499 on PC; the same as the PS3 version. Again, the Xbox 360 price is missing.

There’s nothing like a few percentages to put things into perspective. FIFA 14 on PCsees a dramatic 66% price hike from the Rs 1,499 launch price of FIFA 13. On PS3, the increase is less severe, a 16% increase from Rs 2,999 to Rs 3,499 – understandable considering the existing currency exchange rates.

The price increases for Battlefield and Need for Speed are harder to stomach. Battlefield 4 on PC is more than twice the price (133% to be precise) that Battlefield 3 was launched at, and the same is the case for Need for Speed: Rivals over last year’s Most Wanted. On console, once again, the increase is just 16% for both games.

The new prices come close on the heels of a report we ran last week, where we were told by EA regional director Chris Gatherer that PC prices in India will be in line with global prices going forward.
