UPDATED: Sierra Games Twitter account teases Kickstarter campaign

A Sierra Games Twitter account has teased an upcoming Kickstarter campaign.

The former publisher of major console franchises such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, as well as Valve games including PC juggernaut Half-Life 2, Sierra Entertainment was absorbed in 2008 by its parent firm Activision Blizzard.

The company vanished until last week, when the Sierra website was suddenly reactivated, teasing at a comeback announcement to be revealed at Gamescom with a short video and splash screen.

Now the mystery thickens, as a Twitter account which at least seems to be the official account for Sierra Games has tweeted: Thank you for following! We’ll see you on Kickstarter.”

As with any announcement, the statement has stirred a largely vitriolicreaction among the internet audience, with one commenter replying oh hey awesome, can never have too many game studios or too many kickstarters” and another saying Surely you mean you’re buying Kickstarter, right Activision?”

Whether the account is real or not is yet to be proved – but if it’s legitimate, it could mark the first foray of Activision into crowdfunding.

UPDATE: Activision has now confirmed to MCV that the @Sierra_Games Twitter account is indeed fake, reiterating: "More information about Sierra will be revealed at Gamescom."
