US: Best Buy rolls out pre-owned

Big-box American retailer Best Buy is to roll out its pre-owned games offer to 600 stores across the US this Sunday (August 29th), it has confirmed.

The retailer signalled its intention to make the move in June.

To begin with consumers will be able to trade-in their titles for in-store credit against any purchase, though it hasn’t yet announced when buyers will be able to purchase second hand titles of the retailer’s shelves.

However, the selection of games that shoppers are able to trade-in will be limited to over 100 titles”, with that selection being constantly rotated – presumably according to stock levels.

This is not the first time Best Buy has attempted to storm the pre-owned market, having unsuccessfully made a similar move in June 2009. Yesterday it was confirmed that US retailer Target is to make its own move into the sector.

Best Buy stores in the UK already allow customers to trade-in games.
