Figures from US sales analyst NPD group have shown that Nintendo’s DS sold more hardware units in August than any machine has ever sold throughout the month in North America.
Videogamer reports that DS sold 518,000 units in the territory last month – beating the previous record set by PS2 when in August 2002 it sold 454,300 units. It’s also the first time any console has sold over half a million units in August since NPD began keeping records.
The achievement is all the more impressive considering the growth slowdown felt by the games industry in the US.
August was a good month for Nintendo in North America, though it was Xbox 360’s sales victory over PS3 that made the headlines.
