US startup Skillz raises $6m for mobile eSports

Mobile eSports platform Skillz has raised $6m in its latest round of fundraising, money the company will use to help drive a user acquisition initiative for its partners.

Skillz currently runs around 50,000 daily competitions and pays out around $10,000 a day in tournament prizes to participating mobile users. The platform’s ultimate goal is to enable real-money competitive tournaments for any commercially available mobile game.

"This latest round of funding brings our industry one step closer to the inevitable future of a tournament system in every mobile game," Skillz CEO and founder Andrew Paradise stated. "We’re ushering in a new era in competitive gaming."

The company intends to use the new round of funding led by Atlas Venture to bring in new users for developers that choose to launch their games on the Skillz platform.
