Nintendo is claiming that Wii is now the best-selling next-gen console in North America after NPD figures confirmed that since its launch in November 2006 the machine has racked up sales of 10.9 million units.
In June ’08 alone the Wii sold over 666,000 units in the region.
"Wii was created with the goal of expanding the gaming universe through its intuitive motion-sensing controller," Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing and E3 favourite Cammie Dunaway stated.
"As we have demonstrated this week during the E3 Media & Business Summit, Wii continues to pioneer new ways for people to interact with their video games and with one another."
However, the Wii is still someway behind its little brother the DS, which in June sold 783,000 units and now boasts total US sales of 20.8 million units.
