GameRecruiter launches game art contest backed by industry judges

Want to be a supermodel(ler)?

GameRecruiter has launched Battle of the Supermodelers, a competition designed to discover 3D artistic talent.

Open to both students and professionals in the industry, entrants must submit completed real-time 3D model of "a monster, creature, robot or alien that might be found in a fantasy, sci-fi or horror game". Up for grabs is over $50,000 worth of art tools and tech from Alienware, Autodesk, Wacom and The Gnomon Workshop.

Judging the entrants will be a panel of seven industry judges, comprised of Dave Perry (CCO, Acclaim), Jason Manley (president, Massive Black), Eric Nofsinger (CCO, High Voltage), Bryan Pritchard (CCO, Barking Lizards), Shawn Robertson (lead artist, 2K Boston), Mark Snoswell (president, The CGSociety) and Nate Wells (art director, 2K Boston).

“Everywhere I go in the world I meet people that deserve to have their work seen, so I’m very supportive when I see an initiative like this," said Dave Perry.

"The ‘Battle of the SuperModelers’ competition is not just about prizes, it can end up in dramatic career boosts for the individuals that just needed the opportunity to get really noticed by the industry.”

Marc Mencher, CEO of GameRecruiter, added: “We feel that 3D artists are often the unsung heroes of the games world, considering that they are creating game characters and environments that consumers recognise and enjoy for years to come. GameRecruiter is proud to be the organisation behind such a worthwhile effort, and looks forward to giving exposure to many deserving 3D artists.”

Entrants have until August 15th to submit their models, 50 of which will be short-listed on the GameRecruiter site. Winners will be announced on September 15th and presented on the 17th at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas. For more information, check out the official site.
