Ubisoft’s open world action game will arrive just before E3 2014, after missing the PS4 and Xbox One launches

Watch Dogs’ delay ends in May

Watch Dogs, Ubisoft’s marquee game for the new generation, will finally be released worldwide on May 27th, following a six-month delay.

The open world action game, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, had been set to arrive at the global launches of PS4 and Xbox One in November. But at the eleven hour, Ubisoft delayed the title citing that it did not want to “compromise on quality”.

Watch Dogs has been hotly anticipated for both consoles following impressive demos and presentations at E3 and Gamescom. It’s delay become another reason for some who chose not to invest in the new games systems at launch.

The game’s delay was also felt by Ubisoft, which missed its third quarter target, despite making €520 million (£433m) thanks to titles including Assassin Creed IV and Just Dance.

“We are pleased to be able to reveal to gamers all over the world the new release date for Watch Dogs,” said Ubisoft EMEA senior vice president of sales and marketing Geoffroy Sardin.

“We are extremely confident that the additional time we afforded the dev team to refine and polish the game will be more than worth the wait.”

In the game, players assume the role of Aiden Pearce, a vigilante hero who, with the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system to control various elements of the city.

Watch Dogs will be released on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on Tuesday, May 27th – almost two years after the game was first unveiled at E3 2012. The Wii U version however will arrive “at a later date”.
