We Happy Few is coming to retail

Gearbox Publishing will be bringing indie sensation We Happy Few to retail, developer Compulsion Games has announced.

The studio’s psychedelic title will hit shelves on April 13th 2018, for PS4, Xbox One and PC. We Happy Few will also get the collector’s edition treatment, with a ‘Collector’s Set’ (see picture below) launching alongside the title. It will include the game’s soundtrack on vinyl, a sticker set, posters, an alarm clock, the game’s handbook and a plexi sign lamp. It does not include a copy of the game though. The collector’s box will set consumers back $149.99 (116), while the game standard edition will cost 59.99.

We Happy Few launched on Steam Early Access (to very positive reviews) and Xbox’s Age Preview in July last year, but the version launching next year will be much bigger, Compulsion Games said, with a full-length story campaign played as three different characters and more than 250 unique encounters."

Players who purchased the game in Early Access will get the full game at no extra cost. Compulsion Games also announced a major update for the Early Access version, called Life in Technicolour, which you can read about here.

Compulsion Games’ studio head Guillaume Provost commented: "Our team was humbled by the initial public reception to We Happy Few, and delighted to have this chance to make it bigger. Gearbox believed in us from the very beginning, and we think this partnership will make it possible to create the game that our community expects."

We Happy Few was successfully Kickstarted back in 2015 and became a sensation after it was shown on stage at Xbox’s conference at E3 2016. Talking to MCV just before the Early Access launch, Compulsion Games’ COO Sam Abbott said the public response to the game was definitely more positive” than what he expected and was also keen to distance its game from Bioshock. Earlier this year, Variety reported that We Happy Few was getting the movie treatment.
