Kicking off an intensive set of features analysing WiiWare game development and the potential of Nintendo's download platform

Welcome to WiiWare week

In anticipation of the launch of Nintendo’s WiiWare platform we’ve embarked on an in-depth investigation into the service’s potential, talking to developers across the world making games for the new Wii channel.

Although some details regarding the versatility of the service are still closely under wraps, studios are still vocal about what the new service offers over the likes of Xbox Live Arcade, the financial benefits of Nintendo’s laissez-faire approach, what the more casual gaming-oriented approach means for the industry – and even how Nintendo could possibly radically change game development.

We’ve kick-started the multi-part feature today with an exclusive Q&A discussing UK-made launch game LostWinds. The chat with Frontier boss David Braben looks at the genesis of the project and the differences in making a game for WiiWare. To read the interview click here.

Later this week we’ll be looking at how and why the WiiWare has so quickly captured imaginations amongst developers and provided an instant opportunity for brand new studios – plus feature an exclusive article written by one of the new teams targetting WiiWare.

Check back every day this week for the next installments.
