Wii Pokémon RPG ruled out

The Nintendo Wii will not be home to a traditional Pokmon RPG game any time soon.

The series’ developer GameFreak has said that core Pokmon titles will continue to be released on handheld consoles only.

An announcement made during a Nintendo investor call last month said that new Pokmon games will be heading to 3DS and Wii, but GameFreak has dispelled rumours that the Wii game will be a core Pokmon RPG title.

When asked by IGN if there would be a main part of the series on Wii, GameFreak co-founder Junichi Masuda said: I don’t think so. I think the core Pokmon series is always going to be with handheld hardware – and in the future as well.”

I consider handheld hardware you can carry around with you as almost being equal to being with Pokmon. Also, you can communicate and transfer data all the time, whenever you want with a handheld. That’s also a match with the Pokemon concept.”

However Masuda did suggest Wii Pokmon games are ideal for party situations.

Maybe in the future, if we can think of a way to do something cool with that, then that’s the sort of environment we can work in,” he added.

Wii Pokmon games include Battle Revolution and Pikachu’s Adventure. The next traditional handheld Pokmon RPG, Black and White, hits shelves on DS on March 4th.
