Wii U sales slightly up as revenue increases

Nintendo has said that it sold 1.19m Wii U consoles in the first half of its financial year ending September.

That’s up ever so slightly on the 1.12m sold in the same period the year before. The company also said in July that it sold 470k units in Q1, meaning Q2 sales of 720k units. Splatoon was the biggest success with sales of 2.42m units. Super Mario Maker notched up 1.88m sales.

Total Wii U sales now stand at 10.73m. That’s around ten per cent of the Wii’s 102m lifetime sales.

H1 3DS sales hit 2.28m, up on last year’s 2.09m and representing quarterly sales of 1.27m. Lifetime 3DS sales have now hit 54.34m units – around a third of DS’ 154m sales.

Nintendo’s overall revenues for the period hit 204bn, up 19.1 per cent year-on-year. Operating income hit 8.98bn. Profits reached 11.45bn, down from last year’s 14.3bn.

It says it sticks by its full year forecast of 565bn in sales and 49bn in operating income, meaning it must be expecting a fantastic Christmas performance for its consoles and a strong debut for its smartphone titles

Speaking of which, the Wall Street Journal reports that we should expect news of the company’s first mobile title tomorrow – just one day later than expected.
