Wii U’s Splatoon sells 1m copies

Nintendo has sold one million copies of its Wii U exclusive Splatoon in less than a month since its release.

The brand new IP has proven popular across the globe. 230,000 units were sold in Europe, 476,000 in the US, 368,000 in Japan and 20,000 in Australia.

"Since Splatoon launched on May 29th, it has been great to see so many players competing in online matches", said Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata.

"We are pleased this new Wii U exclusive game is capturing the imagination of so many fans across Europe, and look forward to bringing more exclusive titles to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this year."
