Four graduates from the University of Wolverhampton have formed their own mobile studio in the city.
VOiD Games was officially set up in June last year by computer science graduate Chris Carter, games design grad Jake Rogers, interactive Media and web graduate Neil Cooper and part-time computer science student Adam Talbot.
The studio focuses on developing games for iPod and iPhone, and has launched its first app called Guess The Game, in which users are tasked with identifying logos and box art from past computer and console games.
The developer was founded as part of a business start-up project called Speed Plus, which helps provide students and graduates in the area to gain financial support and offer access to business facilities and mentoring to help them found a new company.
As well as recently releasing their first game, the studio is set to release its second app by the end of January, with plans to continue the development of new ideas and release at least five apps by the end of the summer.
“Before starting the Speed Plus project none of us had any business background or training and it has really helped us develop our business faster,” said VOiD Games MD Chris Carter.
“We are currently using hot desking space provided by Speed as our office, this was vital for us as now we have somewhere to work from that isn’t each other’s living rooms.
“It has given us business training in areas of marketing, accounts, legislation and business structure. We have a business mentor which helps us with the development of the business and makes sure we are on track. They have also supported us financially for equipment and setup costs.”
