Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive have announced that World War Z has sold over 1 million units in its opening week.
The co-op shooter – inspired by Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster film – hit the milestone with sales across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
“Saber is extremely thrilled by the performance of the game on all platforms. On the PC specifically, we are performing way above expectations thanks to the support we have received from the Epic Games Store,” said Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch. “Moving forward, we’ll continue to work on growing the game and its community with new improvements, stability updates and bonus gameplay content, beginning very soon with a special new mission for the Tokyo episode.”
Focus Home Interactive recently partnered with Sumo Digital for a “multiplayer experience without compromise”. Describing the unannounced game as “as dark as it is violent”, the first fruit of this collaboration” will be developed by Sumo Newcastle, the team behind EVE: Valkyrie.
French publisher Focus Home Interactive reported record revenue for the first half of the 2018/19 financial year. In its last financial report, Focus attributes the record revenue of €44.3 million to Dontnod’s gothic RPG, Vampyr, plus “excellent performance” of its back catalogue, the sales for which are reportedly up €11.1 million year-on-year.
“After the successful launch of Vampyr where the game topped the charts in France, the UK, Germany and in many other countries, Dontnod’s game enjoyed tremendous success throughout the second quarter,” Focus said via an official statement. “With praise heaped on it for its production and script, Vampyr is a further confirmation, after MudRunner and The Surge in 2017, of the Group’s ability to create a major event with games that combine unprecedented concepts and high-potential universes.”
