XBL points to big Black Ops sales

We are yet to receive any firm sales numbers for Call of Duty: Black Ops from publisher Activision, but stats from Xbox Live suggests the game is well on track to rival the records set by its predecessor Modern Warfare 2.

As noted by Treyarch’s community manager Josh Olin, last night Xbox Live was showing just under one million gamers logged onto the game on Microsoft’s network.

Add in those playing the Xbox 360 version who aren’t online as well as all the gamers playing the PS3 and PC versions of the game and Black Ops seems to have enjoyed a stunning first 24 hours on the market.

Last year Modern Warfare 2 ranked up 1.23m unit sales in the UK alone in its first 24 hours. The combined 24-hour number across North America and the UK was 4.7m units, representing $310m in sales.

The game went on to sell 1.7m units in the UK on its first week, netting $550m worldwide in its first five days.
