Xbox One unit sales are up as Xbox Live usage climbs

Microsoft is pretty coy about the sales performance of the Xbox One nowadays, but it looks as if the console has grown sales year-on-year.

Xbox One hardware unit sales were up year-on-year for the nine months ending March 31st 2016, although hardware revenues were down 26 per cent – a fact Microsoft attributed to a decline in Xbox 360 console volume and lower prices of Xbox One consoles sold”.

Overall gaming revenue climbed four per cent throughout the nine months. Xbox Live revenues grew 21 per cent, with both the average transaction price and number of transactions growing. Software revenue was up 41 per cent.

For the three months ending March 31st gaming revenue hit $64m, up four per cent. Xbox Live revenue grew by 22 per cent, although Xbox hardware revenue was down by over a quarter at 26 per cent.

Microsoft this week announced plans to end the manufacturing of Xbox 360. Global Xbox One sales appear to stand at around 18m units – half of what PS4 has achieved in the same timeframe.

It looks as if Microsoft could quite possibly be on the cusp of announcing either a new Xbox or an improved version of Xbox One, a rumour that has today been fuelled by comments from AMD.
