Microsoft may have yet another surprise announcement up its sleeve for E3.
It has already been suggested that the company will announce a new Xbox One Slim, an upgraded Xbox One and possibly even a streaming device (or two). Now is being suggested that Microsoft will also use E3 to announce its first VR content.
ArsTechnica reports that ‘at least one major developer is currently planning to release a new virtual reality game on the Xbox One in 2017 and plans to show that game at E3′. This news apparently comes direct from the developer in question, which is a ‘well known European studio’, while the game itself is also in development for PS4 and PC.
Adding fuel to the fire, Neogaf sleuths spotted that the official E3 website has added an ‘Xbox One VR’ category, under which four developers are registered – including Rebellion, which is currently working on the previously announced Battlezone VR for Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR.
Previous reports about the new Xbox, codenamed Xbox Scorpio, pointed towards some sort of integration with Oculus Rift. Microsoft and Oculus already enjoy an ongoing partnership.
Until now Microsoft has remained largely quiet in the VR debate. Xbox boss Phil Spencer did say the company was actively engaged with VR tinkering as long ago as May 2014, but the only concrete news to emerge has been the development of its augmented reality headset HoloLens.
