Xbox’s Spencer plays down desire for Minecraft 2

Servicing the needs of the existing Minecraft community is a far bigger priority than getting a Minecraft sequel to market.

That’s according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who reminded IGN (via Polygon) that for the time being the deal has not been closed and Mojang is free to do with the brand as it wishes.

"The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there," Spencer said. "We need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else.

Job one is to go out and meet the needs of the Minecraft community first, and then we can think about ways that we can actually help grow it.

It doesn’t mean that everything we’re going to do is going to map to 100 per cent of their acceptance, because I don’t know if there is any topic where 100 per cent of people agree.”
