Yakuza series ships 5m

Sega’s popular Yakuza series has shipped more than five million units worldwide to date.

The series began in 2005 with the PS2 original, which combined with a re-release years later has since sold one million units, according to Andriasang.

Yakuza of the End, a zombie apocalypse-themed spin-off for the PlayStation-exclusive IP, launched in Japan earlier this month and has already shipped 400,000 units.

Its first week sales in the Media Create weekly chart came in at just under 300,000 units – slightly less than 384,000 achieved by Yakuza 4 and the 372,000 managed by Yakuza 3.

The game was originally due for release on March 17th, but was delayed after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
