YouTube has launched its new premium offering, YouTube Red.
The $9.99-a-month subscription allows viewers to watch YouTube videos without adverts, combatting the need for third-party plugins such as Adblocker.
Subscribers will also be able to download and save videos to watch offline on their mobile devices – another long-requested feature that has been offered by brower add-ons in the past.
Where YouTube Red will differ is in its exclusive content offering.
Some of the biggest creators on the video service, including big names in games such as PewDiePie and Rooster Teeth, will make videos that can only be watched if you’re signed up to YouTube Red.
The service will also give users access to YouTube Music, an upcoming music streaming competitor to Spotify that YouTube announced alongside the subscription service.
YouTube Red additionally includes access to the existing Google Play Music catalogue – the differences between Google Play Music and YouTube Music are likely to be detailed in the coming weeks.
YouTube’s Kids and Gaming apps are also covered by YouTube Red, although fans of particular Gaming channels can still remain subscribed to those using the separate Sponsorships feature announced earlier this month.
YouTube Red launches in the US on October 28th, with a month’s free trial. Details of a UK or European launch are yet to be detailed.
